Vegetable growers grow a little

Farm workers weeding a crop

An economic survey of Australian vegetable farmers by ABARES has revealed modestly optimistic growth figures. The annual survey found that the average farm cash income increased to around $250,000 per farm in 2015–16 as a result of higher vegetable production, mainly from an increase in crop yields

The average rate of return increased from 3 per cent in 2014–15 to 3.6 per cent in 2015–16. Meanwhile, farm debt fell by 7 per cent to an average of $454,200.
