Kraft-Heinz to drop caged eggs

While Australia adopts new free-range egg standards, many large food companies and retailers are listening to consumers’ unease over the treatment of caged laying hens.

Global food and beverage company Kraft-Heinz has said in its inaugural corporate social responsibility report that it plans to eliminate caged eggs from its supply chain worldwide by 2025. The policy will be adopted in all of the 25 countries in which Kraft Heinz operates.

The announcement follows similar decisions by food manufacturer Nestlé late last year. Cage-free policies have already been announced by some of Australia’s biggest egg-using companies, including Subway, McDonald’s, Hungry Jacks, Woolworths, Aldi, McCain, Arnott’s Mondelez and Hilton.
